Collect for Spy Wednesday

Head of JudasA prayer for today’s Community Holy Week service at which I am serving as the liturgist, based on the lectionary reading (John 13:21-32). It’s called Spy Wednesday to remember Judas conspiring to betray Jesus.

Glorious God,
in your Incarnate Word
you name the truth of our existence,
and through the cross,
Christ Jesus emancipates the world from the clutches of sin and death.
May your Spirit move more quickly
than our desertion, our denial, and our betrayal,
to clothe us with the grace of Resurrection
and seat us at your freedom-table without end.

Amen.

  1. Steve says:

The word ‘spy’ caught my attention.
From my experience, someone who goes in intending to spy is not the same as a turncoat/traitor.
Either way it’s a dirty and sad business.
People of course find ways to justify wrongs – we excel at it, don’t we?
To Judas’ great credit, he repented of his error.
    Many never do.
